One of the reasons why we are researching Titan is because of the ice and water wells found from out satellites. We are now experimenting with the ice molecules on Earth by recreating some of the conditions found on Titan.
Crystals formed using this new method of study are being analyzed with various diffraction and other instrumentation methods. The findings revealed much about how planetary ices are formed. We previously had no knowledge of this.
Key Takeaways:
- Researchers have found that many minerals that create ice crystals are abundant on Titan.
- We now have developed ways to emulate what is happening to these crystals in Titan
- The research will help reveal what is happening on other planets similar to Titan.
“Now, earthbound researchers have recreated the moon’s conditions in small glass cylinders, revealing fundamental properties of two organic molecules that are believed to exist as minerals on Titan.”
