As far back as 1909, New Zealanders were reporting seeing unnatural objects in the skies. Decades later during one night in December 1952, more than 15 similar sightings were reported across the country. The best known encounter with a UFO came in 1978 when a still unidentified object was captured on video. Skeptics have always questioned the sightings. Increasingly, however, there is a belief among scientists that intelligent life is out there somewhere in the universe. However, others point out that the odds of contact are slim because intelligent life anywhere might not last very long.
