Interstellar travel for humans is still in the future but we hope to do it someday. Science fiction often features it because it fascinates us so much. We want to go to different solar systems to see if there is intelligent life anywhere or if there is a planet humans would be able to colonize. We’re not there yet but scientists do work on problems that we’d have to face so we can eventually do it.
Key Takeaways:
- Space based UFO sightings have happened throughout the history of space flight.
- The distances between the stars are enormous. Scientists have determined that the speed of light is 108,000 miles per second.
- Chemical rockets don’t get you very far in the solar system.
“To engage on interstellar missions on a time frame of a human lifetime around about 50 years we need to increase the speed we can travel by at least a factor of 1000”
