The concept of the universe as a simulation is a reasonable idea Provided that the simulation that is created is just realistic enough to convince a simulated brain that it’s real. Thus, it’s not that the whole universe has to be simulated.
This would make it so the computing power required for the simulation isn’t as vast. Binary operations of the brain can be done if the advances in society and computing power can be created. Creating a giant computer to simulate every possible brain function of every person who has ever lived. The idea that at our current reality is a simulation created by a future self of the historic (to the creators of the simulation) reality and all of those that lived in it.
Though this is feasible, it’s also quite unlikely. Because there is a chance, that our future selves wouldn’t bother to simulate the past anyway.
