What will it take for humans to attain interstellar travel?
There are some things to consider when attempting to reach interstellar travel. What type of energy are we going to use? We must find a fuel with maximum energy density.
- First option rocket fuel-the use of rocket fuels that have propelled humans to space so far are non-starters for interstellar travel.
- Second option fusion- This is the most achievable option in the shortest amount of time.
- Third option anti-matter drives- anti-matter if very efficient but difficult to store.
- Fourth option the light sail- to send humans this would require a laser placed on the moon and the sail would ride the wave of the laser’s energy.
- Option five the black hole drive- it’s an engine powered by an artificial black hole. It’s one of the fastest options.
Key Takeaways:
- The first star ship that is built should use technologies that are available in our lifetime.
- It would take 90 years for a one-way trip on the star ship and it would be manned by three generations of people.
- The fastest technology available to power the star ship is the Kugelblitz, which is an artificial black hole powered by radiation.
“Humanities first adventure to the stars won’t and shouldn’t wait for far off fantastical technologies.”
